What to Wear to Your First BJJ Class (Men & Women)

The shortest answer: wear something tight, wear something simple, leave the metal at home.
You do not need to buy anything for your first Brazilian Jiu Jitsu class at Logic. We provide a clean loaner gi for any gi class. Here is exactly what to put on.
Men — First Class Outfit
- →Athletic shorts — no zippers, no buttons, no pockets. Compression shorts underneath are recommended.
- →Fitted t-shirt or rash guard. Loose shirts will get pulled over your head.
- →Mouthguard if you have one. Not required for technique-only classes.
Women — First Class Outfit
- →Sports bra — high support, racerback works well.
- →Fitted rash guard or compression shirt over the sports bra.
- →Athletic leggings or fight shorts. Long compression leggings are most popular.
- →Hair tied back. Braid or bun — no metal clips.
What to Avoid
- ✗Anything with pockets, zippers, buckles, or buttons.
- ✗Jewelry of any kind. Earrings, rings, necklaces, watches — all off.
- ✗Cotton t-shirts that stretch and absorb every drop of sweat.
- ✗Brand-new shoes on the mat — BJJ is barefoot.
When to Buy Your First Gi
Wait until you have trained 2–3 weeks. By then you know if BJJ is for you, you know your size, and your coach can recommend a brand. Logic stocks Kingz gis (the gym standard) and our team can help you size correctly.
