Markee on the mat at Logic Jiu Jitsu

    Real Story

He was 250lbs and watching himself die.

Markee's mother had been declining for years. He was her primary caregiver. Every ounce of energy he had went to keeping her alive.

In the process, he stopped taking care of himself. Completely.

250 pounds. Depressed. No fitness level to speak of. Following down the same path as the person he was trying to save.

"I cannot help her if I am not available and healthy enough to do it."

He needed something that would hold him accountable. Something with people who wouldn't let him disappear. Not a gym membership he'd quit in three weeks.

    He walked into Logic.

    Day One

    250

    lbs

    Now

    195

    lbs

55lbs gone in one year. No diet. No supplement. Just showing up.

He couldn't finish a single round.

250 pounds. Zero experience. Couldn't make it through one class without stopping.

    None of that mattered.

Within one year of training jiu jitsu at Logic, Markee dropped to 185 pounds. Fifty pounds gone. Not from a crash diet. Not from a supplement. From showing up to class and refusing to stop.

He started lifting weights. Got to a shredded 195.

But the weight was never the point. The weight was a side effect of a man who decided he was done watching himself deteriorate.

The man who couldn't finish a round now runs the kids program.

Seven years later, Markee is a black belt. The head instructor of the kids program at Logic.

He found a way to pour into other people — not by sacrificing himself, but because he built himself up first.

The kids he teaches every week are learning more than techniques. They're learning what it looks like when someone refuses to quit.

Then he lost the person he built it all for.

Markee lost his mother. The person he restructured his entire life to protect — gone.

And the community he'd built around himself at Logic carried him through it.

"Logic and the people truly support me and have been there for me on my darkest days, including losing my mother. I would not have made it without this community. Absolutely no cliché. I do not know where I would be without them."

That's not marketing. That's a man telling you the truth about what saved his life.

"Just start. You cannot help others without first helping yourself. The time is going by anyway and you cannot get it back."

    — Markee

Maybe you're not 250 pounds. Maybe you're not a caregiver. Maybe your story looks nothing like his.

But you know the feeling. The one where you look in the mirror and know you're capable of more. The one where you keep saying "next week" and next week never comes.

Markee didn't have a plan when he walked in. He didn't know a single technique. He couldn't finish a round. He just made one decision — show up.

That was seven years ago. He's a black belt now.
